The students in Mrs. Ferguson's 4th grade tried to find the best angle (incline) to make the truck go the fastest. They also used pennies as weights to see if they helped the truck go faster.

2nd grade Mrs. Jackson's class investigations under way. Solid liquid gas investigation and the exploding pumpkin to see gas. We also explored the seeds of the pumpkin.

3rd grade appreciates our Grandparents!
Grandparents make a big difference in a child's life. They support, encourage and offer so much love and undivided attention. We want to say thanks with hugs, kisses and love to all grandparents.

Just a reminder for our families with virtual students in the Harvard Yard, Sunset, Turrell and Jericho areas - Meal pick up will be in your areas today. Each student will be provided 5 prepackaged breakfast and lunches. If you plan on picking meals up, please be at one of the locations listed at the time listed. Buses will stop if someone is waiting. Parents will be allowed to pick up student’s meals but they must have the student’s MSD ID and the student must be listed on the virtual student list in order to receive the meals. View the image for specific times and locations

The second grade VPA students conducted their own experiment based on some general background information they received. This experiment was based on seedling germination and plant growth. Students’ individual plants had the same variables: water, sunlight, soil and air. One variable was changed on the class plant: it was given no light. This experience allowed the students to discuss in detail the plant growth process. They were so excited throughout this process. https://photos.app.goo.gl/TfQ4wggT1yMFDL8E8

Since day one of this school year, our faculty and staff have been working feverishly to simultaneously provide for the needs of both virtual and in-classroom students. Over time it has become clear that while their effort has been remarkable, any expectations of sustainability of our current model throughout the remainder of the semester are simply unrealistic.
Beginning, Monday, November 2, 2020, MSD will shift to a 2:00 p.m. daily release time for all K-12 students. This will provide time daily from 2:00-3:30, for teachers and staff to work on planning and preparation to better support virtual and quarantined students. This schedule change will remain in effect until the end of the 2nd 9 weeks, at which time its effectiveness will be evaluated.
Information regarding Pre-K will be released shortly.

Some key points about the new schedule
· Dismissal at 2:00 p.m. each day
· 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. dedicated to teacher planning and preparation
· All classes will be shortened, but will still meet daily
· Boy’s Club after-school care will be adjusted to a 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. time frame at all three magnet locations
· Para-professionals will continue to work normal hours with possible adjusted assignments from each building principal.
Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to the well-being of our students and community.
Dr. Glen Fenter
