Four Marion School District bands are set to compete at the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association Region 4 Concert Assessment on March 11 at the West Memphis High School Performing Arts Center.

For the first time, three bands will compete from Marion High School, including the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band. These bands, which normally combine to form the Marion Patriot Pride Marching Band, will compete to earn the coveted ASBOA Sweepstakes Award.

In addition to the MHS ensembles, Marion Junior High School will also be sending a band to compete at the Region Assessment. The Marion Junior High 8th Grade Symphonic Band will also be vying for the ASBOA Sweepstakes Award.

For a high school band to earn the Sweepstakes Award, it must receive a first division rating in concert, sight reading, and marching performance. A junior high band must earn a first division in concert and sight reading only.

Performance times for the Marion Bands on March 11 are as follows:

  • Marion 8th grade, 2:10 p.m.

  • Marion High School Concert Band, 5:10 p.m.

  • Marion High School Symphonic Band, 6:30 p.m.

  • Marion High School Wind Symphony, 8 p.m.
