school calendar

Following newly issued guidance from the Arkansas Department of Education, the Marion School District is making adjustments to its school calendar for this year that will restore the full 2-week Spring Break, and give the district flexibility to address any additional unforeseen school closures for the remainder of the school year.

The new MSD calendar will include the following:

  • Wednesday, March 27, Thursday, March 28, and Friday, March 29 will be Spring Break days. Additionally, Monday, April 1 will be a professional development day for staff. Students will not attend school.

  • Friday, February 16, and Monday, February 19 (Presidents Day) will be student attendance days.

  • Thursday, February 15 will be a student attendance day, with early dismissal at 2:30 p.m. and parent-teacher conferences to follow from 4-8 p.m. that evening.

  • Monday, April 8, and Friday, May 24 will be student/staff holidays.

  • If schools close for weather or any other reason, makeup days will be used in the following order: Friday, May 24, Monday, April 8, and Friday, June 7.

“We are grateful to the Department of Education for giving us this new guidance and flexibility, given the large number of days we have to make up,” said Hugh Inman, the district’s deputy superintendent. “We know many families had plans for Spring Break, so we are pleased to be able to restore those days. We also like having flexibility in place for the rest of the school year, especially knowing how unpredictable Arkansas winters can be. If we happen to have any more unanticipated closures, we will have some level of protection.”
