First grade at VPA will be closed for face to face instruction for a total of 5 days, beginning Friday, October 30th, and running through Thursday, November 5th. Face to face instruction in 1st grade at VPA will resume on Friday, November 6. This closure is due to 1 positive Covid-19 test which resulted in the quarantining of all 1st grade teachers at VPA. Unfortunately, we do not have enough substitute teachers/extra personnel to provide the supervision that is necessary to allow 1st grade students to attend during this time that all 1st grade teachers are required to be out.
VPA will remain open and all other grades will continue to offer face to face instruction following the normal school schedule. We will be reaching out to the families of 1st grade students impacted and informing them of ways they can receive meals from the district during this time.
Thank you for your continued support of the Marion School District.
Don't forget!

Patriot Parents:
Remember beginning, Monday, November 2, 2020, MSD will shift to a 2:00 p.m. daily release time for all K-12 students. This will provide time daily from 2:00-3:30, for teachers and staff to work on planning and preparation to better support virtual and quarantined students. This schedule change will remain in effect until the end of the 2nd 9 weeks, at which time its effectiveness will be evaluated.
Thank you for your continued support of the Marion School District.

Since day one of this school year, our faculty and staff have been working feverishly to simultaneously provide for the needs of both virtual and in-classroom students. Over time it has become clear that while their effort has been remarkable, any expectations of sustainability of our current model throughout the remainder of the semester are simply unrealistic.
Beginning, Monday, November 2, 2020, MSD will shift to a 2:00 p.m. daily release time for all K-12 students. This will provide time daily from 2:00-3:30, for teachers and staff to work on planning and preparation to better support virtual and quarantined students. This schedule change will remain in effect until the end of the 2nd 9 weeks, at which time its effectiveness will be evaluated.
Information regarding Pre-K will be released shortly.
Some key points about the new schedule
· Dismissal at 2:00 p.m. each day
· 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. dedicated to teacher planning and preparation
· All classes will be shortened, but will still meet daily
· Boy’s Club after-school care will be adjusted to a 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. time frame at all three magnet locations
· Para-professionals will continue to work normal hours with possible adjusted assignments from each building principal.
Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to the well-being of our students and community.
Dr. Glen Fenter
